PLANNING COMMISSION PUBLIC HEARING
DRAFT 2026 COMPREHENSIVE PLAN UPDATE
The Coventry Planning Commission will conduct a Public Hearing to gather public feedback on the proposed DRAFT 2026 Comprehensive Community Plan Update. This is the first step in the local Comprehensive Plan adoption process described in RIGL § 45-22.2-8, in which the Planning Commission will provide a recommendation to the Coventry Town Council, and then the Town Council will conduct its own Public Hearing subject to a separate public notice.
The Planning Commission Public Hearing will be held on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at 6:30 pm in the Coventry Town Council Chambers, 1670 Flat River Road, Coventry, RI. As an additional courtesy, the Town intends to make the meeting available for public participation using Zoom Video Conference Technology to provide potential remote access to the deliberations of the Coventry Planning Commission.

The 2026 Comprehensive Community Plan Update includes a community profile and focuses on the following policy areas: land use, housing, natural resources, open space and outdoor recreation, cultural and historical resources, economic development, community services and facilities, energy and renewable energy, and natural hazards and climate change. This 2026 Plan is intended to replace the 1999 Comprehensive Plan and will provide a much-needed update to the Town’s policy framework moving forward.
The 2026 Comprehensive Community Plan Update is accessible for review at the following Town webpage: https://coventryri.gov/comprehensive-plan. Any chapters or sections that are substantially edited or updated following this notice will be posted to this webpage (with revision date). Individuals can also review a hard copy of the 2026 Plan in the Planning Office, 1675 Flat River Road, Coventry, RI, on regular work days from 8:30am – 4:30pm.
Please feel free to email your comments on the 2026 Plan to Doug McLean, Director of Planning and Development, at dmclean@coventryri.gov. All emailed comments will be made part of the public record on the Plan update process, and will be considered as part of the Town’s ongoing review of this important document.
All interested persons will have an opportunity to offer verbal comment on the 2026 Comprehensive Plan Update at the Public Hearing on March 25th. Please be advised, the Plan may be revised by the Planning Commission as a result of further study and/or views expressed at said hearing. Please note, as of the date of this publication, no Town Council Public Hearings on the 2026 Comprehensive Plan Update have been scheduled. Such Hearing will be subject to additional public notice.
