Town Manager's Weekly Report (12/5/25)

Town Manager Report for the week ending December 5, 2025

On Saturday December 6 the Town will be celebrating its Winter Wonderland and Tree Lighting from 1:30-6:30 at the Town Hall Annex. The rain date is Sunday December 7. Please join us for a magical afternoon of holiday cheer and community fun with our craft fair, wrapping station, children’s activities, photos with Santa, food trucks, and more. The Tree Lighting Ceremony will take place from 5:30-6:30.

The Parks and Recreation Department also has a trip planned to PPAC on Sunday December 7 at 1:00 for the show “Water for Elephants”. Get discounted tickets and roundtrip transportation while supplies last. Tickets are $71 for residents and $81 for non-residents.

On Tuesday we had our 1st of the month Council meeting that included very important items including an update on the Community Learning Center at the Annex, appointments to boards and commissions, an update from Director McGee on winter operations, and resolutions to purchase a new records management system for the police and to adopt the 2026-2027 Budget calendar. The most important item discussed was the report from the Municipal Fire Commission to the Council on what they have learned over the past 10 months of meetings and research. There was lots of public discussion both for and against a municipal fire department and there remains some outstanding research that needs to be done around MERS, staffing, and whether there needs to be a referendum for the voters.

On Wednesday we had our bi-monthly meeting/update on the high school sewer project which includes the school superintendent and facilities director, myself, the Asst. Town Manager, the Town Engineer, our contractor Brito Construction, our engineer Fuss and O’Neill, and KCWA. Overall, they are on schedule despite a couple of curveballs that were addressed and hope to begin on the high school property on December 22. There may be some changes to the detour which we will communicate once it has been confirmed. We want to thank everyone for their patience and understanding as the construction progresses to the finish line in early summer.

On Thursday we had School Building Committee meeting to get an update on the school bond projects along with the RFP status regarding the high school fire suppression project. We have 4 companies that attended the pre-bid meeting with questions and the bids are due on December 11. The construction of the project is estimated at around $2.7m. The company selected will be approved by the Council at the December 16 joint meeting with construction to begin in January.
