Town Manager's Weekly Report (6/6/25)

Town Manager Report for the week ending June 6, 2025

On Monday night the Town celebrated the RI Day of Portugal with our yearly Portuguese flag raising led by School Committee Vice Chairperson Ana Isabel dos Reis-Couto, Council President Hillary Lima, Vice President JP Verducci, Town wide Councilperson Frank Brown, Councilperson Alisa Capaldi, and School Committee member Brad Mayer.  State representatives present were Rep. Tom Noret and Rep. Earl Read. The flag raising was part of the statewide celebration that begins on June 6 led by Chairman of the Board Orlando Mateus and James Ferreira.

On Monday the Town Council had a Special meeting to oppose House Bill 2025-H6249 and Senate Bill 2025-S 1010 regarding the Western Coventry Fire District. The Resolution asked for the Coventry Municipal Fire Commission to be allowed to complete its research and report on the long-term safety and welfare of all Coventry residents.

On Thursday the Town and School administration had our monthly meeting with the Auditor General and Chief of Municipal Finance for an update on our FY 24 audit, the school’s deficit reduction plan, and the status of the school bond. The meeting went very well and we are on track to have the audit complete this month and the deficit reduction plan presented to the School Committee and Town Council for final approval.

On Thursday we had our bid opening for the joint project of the extension of the Coventry High School sewer line and the upgrade to the Kent County Water Authority’s lines at Tiogue Ave and Reservoir Rd. We had 3 bidders and packages are currently being vetted by our contractor Fuss and O’Neill to determine the low bidder who met the specifications as advertised. We hope to have the project awarded at the June 24 Council meeting and for construction to start at the end of July.

On Monday June 9 at 1000am the Coventry Senior Resource Center 50 Wood St. will be hosting a focused Meditation Class being put on by our community partner Blue Cross Blue Shield of RI. All seniors are invited.

There is our monthly Council meeting on Tuesday June 10 at 600pm in Council Chambers and our annual Pride Flag raising led by members of the Town Council and School Committee at 230pm.
